I read couple of postings wherein it was mentioned the usage for writing null terminated strings. since byte arrays are initiallized with nulls, we don't need to explicitly pad them with - (byte)0x00 (null). - And while reading a trim() works fine (As mentioned in some other post). - But, there is still the doubt whether the exisitng application can read the null terminated strings as my db uses space paddings. any Comments?

any Comments? Yes, but I think I've made them all here. Your current DB file does not have any embedded NULLs; however the instructions imply that this is a possibility. So I think you should write the program to handle this possibility, and create some null-terminated records yourself to test it.
