trapping crashed clients holding locks - essential?

How important ss trapping the situation where a client has a lock and then crashes and thus doesn't release the lock, from a grading perspective?
That's the only thing I have left to implement and I'd like to submit by the end of the month. My unreferenced method isn't getting called...

It's not important at all. It's not part of your requirements, so you're not, um.., required to do it
