Hello Krishna,
What I did when I was starting out on the SCJD exam was to buy Max's book. Here is the URL on Amazon to his book.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1590590309/ref=pd_sim_books_1/103-3888674-4735012?v=glance&s=books
He also happens to be one of the moderators on the forum. Therefore, is quite knowledgable about the exam and subject matter in general. After that, you should buy the exam (same place you bought the Programmer's exam) and visit this forum regularly to see what others are doing or have done in the past.
Generally speaking, you should try to learn as much as you can on the following topics since a good grasp of them is needed to successfully do the project:
-- RMI or Network Programming with Sockets
-- Threading
-- Collections (e.g., Maps, ArrayLists etc.)
-- Swing (particularly, JTable)
-- MVC architecture
There are a number of books on the market in addition to Max's book that address these topics.
Hope this is of help.
Regards.
Bharat

Hi Krishna
I agree with Bharat - Max's book is a great way of preparing for, and working through, the SCJD. And the list of topics he mentions are a great start.
One item of clarification though - I recommend you do not buy the exam - only buy the assignment. They are two separate purchases, and you can buy the assignment and start working on it without purchasing the exam.
Take a look at the question "Should I purchase the exam voucher at the same time as I purchase the assignment?" in our SCJD FAQ and Links page.
Regards, Andrew
