Hi Damu,
If you are using a Microsoft platform, you can use Notepad, or Wordpad (and save in text mode - make sure you get the "text" option (no I can't tell you how to do it, I don't use Microsoft software)).
If you are using Linux, you could use vi or emacs.
For other operating systems, someone else will have to comment.
Regards, Andrew

For Java (and other language) development on Windows platforms, I recommend EditPlus, available at (surprise!) EditPlus.com.
Much more than a text editor, it manages projects, allows you to call any available compiler or runtime engine on your pc, has syntax hightlighting, and many editing and sorting features found on mainframe text editing programs, such as sort by column, column select or shift, etc.
The download works for 30 days, then starts letting you know that you exceeded the free evaluation period. But, even after the evaluation period expires, the program is still fully functional.
I paid the small fee ($29, if I remember correctly) for the license, and I consider it a worthwhile investment as I use EditPlus for writing Java, C, HTML, JavaScript, VBScript, and assembly-language programs, and I've occasionally had to use it to develop COBOL programs before uploading them to a mainframe, but don't tell anyone I used that word in public!
Cheers!
Jeff
