Hello everyboy,
I would like to have your comments on the following UrlyBird Assignment instruction:
Network Approaches
Your choice of RMI or serialized objects will not affect your grade, but no other approach is acceptable. In either case, the program must allow the user to specify the location of the database...

What's the point to let the user choose the location of the database in networked mode? I programmed my assignment to let only local user choose the database location, because i see the local user as some kind of a
application administrator. I think to let remote user let choose the database by themselves would create major havoc in a real worl scenario.
But when i read this instruction a couple of times, i guess the remote users will have to be able to set the database path, dont' they?
Please give me your views on this, or point me to threads where this has been discussed before.
Thank you!
Peter

The program is your server as well so I think the wisdom is
Standalone mode
Location of DB locally set by user.
Networked
Server/Server gui sets up location of db(on server) and port number to start rmi server on.
client chooses server ip address and port no.
