For SCJD exam, I was glancing at the book written by Mehran Habibi, Jeremy Patterson and Terry Camerlengo... I was reading the coding conventions sections, when I remembered reading slightly contradictory conventions in Kathy Sierra's programmer exam book (the last section dealing with SCJD) ...
Any one has followed this book (the 3 author book) and found issues? how good is it? I know about kathy's book coz that helped me pass SCJP with a very good score, but obviously, its not complete for SCJD.
Please tell me if i can go ahead with that 3 author book...

Hi Karthik,
I have bought 3 different books for the SCJD. The book you mentioned (from Mehran Habibi) is the best one.
Best,
Vlad

Hi Karthik,
I've read it and I confirm that Max's (Mehran's) book is great. Moreover Max has been bartender of this forum till recently, and should come back at the end of this year, AFAIK.
Best,
Phil.

Hi Karthik,
I also have 3 SCJD books (if I count Kathy & Bert's), and I agree that Max's is the best I have seen.
You might also be interested in Kathy Sierra's comments on Max's book - strong praise indeed.

I have one book by Habibi et al. The book is nice, the best on the racks('scuse me for having your lips pursed for not extolling the book enough) however my opinion still remains: to get an IDEA about the assignment this forum is best source for fullfilling the assignment. To learn java for the assignment in particular and for life in general I would recommend "Java RMI" by Grosso (it is very useful book) and "Concurrent programming in Java" by Lea (best of all books written for java programmer, the lang. is arcane though). Also, some I/O books might be helpful. Some javaworld.com articles are absolutely relevant to the assignment and delightful to read and follow their guidelines.
The assignment is kind of expensive. Don't spend more money on it than necc.
