Hello again,
Could someone tell me the difference between a development and production environment, and what the differences would specifically affect?
Thanks
Michael

Hi,
Basically, the development environment is the setup of server and equipment for development activities and testing. Usually, the security settings are less stringent than the production environment. Once, the developer is confident that the application is working fine, he will then deploy the application to the production environment where the end-users have access to.
Usually, the development environment mirrors the production environment so that testing is realistic and when the application is deployed, it is confident that it will run smoothly.
Some concrete examples, an online book ordering company like amazon, would have a development environment than mimics the real production environment. This would include application, web, database servers etc for programmer to run their programs on and do testing and quality assurance. You cannot let the programmer to run their programs on the production environment as that will cause operational problems, etc.
Hope this help,
Regards

Thanks Frankie,
So basically no differences in the running requirements.
Which is good as I have just loaded up to Sun! A little nervous to be honest, scratch that, very nervous!
Time for a frosty, is Friday after all, and 17:30 in Belgium.
See ya
Michael
