A brief respite was in order after passing SCJP but now I've begun to prepare for the SCJD exam.
Assuming that a dozy newbie knows nothing about the following....
Sockets
RMI
Design Patterns
Databases...search...record locking
It's more a question of
where to start?

I've read through Kathy and Bert's study guide (Sun Certified Programmer and Developer for Java 2) which gives a clear picture of what the assessor will be looking for (and frankly scares the hell outa me)
Nevertheless, I still intend to give it my best shot so any advice regarding books and sites that you guys have found useful would be much appreciated.
No need to state the obvious
javaranch
as you'd be preachin' to the converted

Cheers,
Bob

Habibi's book is the best way (and only way) to go.
I bought this only this book and it was enough resources
to get me to pass.

Thanks Zak!
Have read Amazon reviews....
this book sounds just the ticket...
a copy is winging it's way to me as we speak - or more realistically,
some guy in a warehouse is wheeling it on a squeaky trolley to the dispatch depot, whilst scratching his ass and whistling the tune to
'I feel pretty'

Hey Bob,
check out the SCJD Links and FAQ link at the top of this forum. It has links to many books and reviews, and some starting answers to questions usually asked.

Hey Mark
thanks for the good advice!
Links and FAQ turns out to be an Aladdins cave of serious info...
90 minute sessions of trawling, interspersed by caffeine.... yup, I got it covered
