I'm casting around (no pun intended) for a SCJD book. Trottier was ok-ish but I want to have a look at M Habibi's - are there sample chaps anywere?
Is this the best book for the exam?

Steven -
I don't know if there are sample chapters anywhere.
It is a common feeling on this forum though that Max's (Mehran Habibi) book is EXCELLENT. I consider it a *MUST HAVE* for this assignment.

Its a damn good book. If you are weak on threading or RMI its a great helper, or if like me you are (or were) weak working in the J2SE environment it has a good idiot proof guide to running the projects outside of your nice safe and helpful J2EE developer environment If your java is good but you have always used JDBC the book will help the transition to 'do-it-yourself' databases. It doesnt break new ground (or it should not if you are a java programmer) but it will help you understand what is needed for the SCJD assignment and give you the confidence to download your assignment and jump in.
My only beef with the book really is the lack of a chapter on documentation. For an idea's on documentation iv'e been using softSCJD. Although the project with softSCJD is radically different in approach to the Habibi book in areas such as locking. Chalk and cheese!

Hi Steven
The Apress web site has a page for Max's book which includes a sample chapter.
Regards, Andrew
