should server port range be constrained?

Besides it must be numeric, should I restrict a range for it?
If so, is 1001 ~ 9999 a reasonable range?

I didn't bother to restrict the range. I did, however, handle any problems with creating or locating the registry on a particular port.
Don't the allowable port numbers vary by operating system. For example, aren't the allowable port numbers different for Windows and Unix?

Hi George:
Yes, it differs from OS. But at least negative number and large number is not reasonable. Therefore, I set it 0 ~ 9999.
