A friend is asking to see my project source code

Hi, folks!
I have a doubt. A friend is asking to see my project source code. What I have to do? He is studying to SCDJ and want to know what Sun asked me and how I solved that.
I guess, I can not and I should not send my project. But if I do that, I risk lost my certification?
After one of you answer, I'll take my decision.
Thanks,

One person's opinion will affect your decision? I'll give you mine: you must listen to your internal voice, not to the chorus or its lead singer.

Or you can give your friend the sample project code in the SCJD Exam with J2SE 1.4 book.

Hi Wilder,
There are several reasons for not providing your friend with your source code:
  • You (and your friend) agreed to a non disclosure agreement with Sun (you do read those agreements before you click on the "Accept" button don't you? ), so providing him with your assignment instructions or your solution would violate that agreement.
  • You (and everyone here) has gone through a lot of effort to try and complete their assignments and pass the certification. If you provide your friend with a solution that they did not have to work for, it is not fair on you or them.
  • If your friend then goes into the work force telling people that they are an SCJD without having done the work, they probably wont be capable of completing such an assignment (if they are capable, then they don't need to see your assignment). So employers will get the feeling that people with SCJD are not worth employing.

  • End result - do not provide your assignment to anyone else. Feel free to help them (or better yet, point them to JavaRanch where we can all help them). Or, as suggested by Anna, reffer them to Max's book if they want to get a feel for what can be in the assignment.

Sometimes it is very hard to say 'No' to your friends cos you know your friends is not going to submit your assignment as theirs or use any portion of your code, they just want a feel of it. Before I set my mind to do the SCJD, I do really hope to see a sample instruction / solution to see whether I can do it comfortably or not. In my opinion, if I had to pay for the exam myself, knowing what the assignment is about is very important, cos it ain't cheap you know.
I think you can help your friend out a fair bit by telling him/her verbally what your assignment's about and your approach etc that is not breaking the rule. Of course, everything Andrew said as well!
You know what? Maybe it is a good idea to have a sample project instruction on the FAQ page

    Hi Wilder,
IT's a tough call, but I recommand against it: I know of people failing for coping solutions. Hell, I know of people failing because it looked like they were coping solutions. Offer to buy him some coffee and discuss the general ideas, or point him towards the sample project in my book.
    All best,
