I am just curious, how are priviledges assigned to members ? When a user registers the very first time, is there a default role that (I guess that is 'ranch hand') is assigned ? Who controls the role assignment and how can a user get higher priviledges than the default ones ?
thanks

for example I see roles like greenhorn, bartender,
sheriff etc. other than the default which is I guess 'ranch hand'.

Greenhorn = 1 - 30 posts then you become a Ranch Hand.
You get to be a Bartender (Moderator) by invitation.
You get to be a Sheriff by an act of God Paul Wheaton.
Some of the Sheriffs have abused their power and slightly modified their own titles :roll: .
For a slight amount of cold hard cash Paul can be persuaded to give YOU a modified title too .

Your posting authority will be the same as greenhorns and ranch hands.
Amazing that this is the first time this question has come up. :roll:
