Today I read the objectives of SCJD, it said there were 7 categories, one of them is Data Store, and it was "described in detail in your assignment documentation".
does the "assignment documentation" mean the choices.txt? But the instruction.html said the choices.txt "describing the significant design choice you made", it did not mention Data Store, I know Data Store could be a design choice, but in my study guide the Data Store (about why did you choose RAF) is just an essay question, so I didn't mention Data Store in my choices.txt, it worthes 40 marks, will I lose the 40 marks, if i will, how many possibility i will pass?
Is there anyone who did URLyBird and passed without mentioning the Data Store in choices.txt???

HaoZhe -
Boy, I just took a peek out there at the objectives and they have really expanded them since I first pulled my assignment in October. I saw out there how they are now saying no NIO, which is new since October.
Anyway - I believe that when they refer to the assignment documentation, they mean your instructions html. My understanding is that the Data Store points are for how you implement your database (i.e. the update, delete, search, read, etc. methods in your Data object). In other words, the 40 points for Data Store deal with how well you implemented the required methods in your Data class - NOT how well you documented design decisions concerning that functionality. If for some reason they feel you didn't properly document a design decision, my guess is you lose a couple points for doco and that's it.
I did have a database section in my choices and it had a few design choices I made - singleton, random access file io, cache vs. no cache. However, with the new "no NIO" rule out there in the objectives now, my decision of RAF vs. file channel is no longer really relevant and thus probably was not needed. Also, since they don't really give much info on singleton vs. non-singleton, I can't really see you losing much for points on doco as long as the approach you chose works.
Be fearless, stay patient, and I bet you will pass with flying colors. And remember, it's not the end of the world to lose a few points here and there. I would have loved to get a higher score, and I could have spent tons more time trying to figure out the dreaded 36 point locking deduction. But unfortunately (or maybe fortunately ), I just did not personally have the time to strive for the perfect score.
320 is what you need, and a pass is a pass.
Good luck, and keep us posted!
