I'm wondering how long the choices.txt document averages out to be for everybody. I'm tempted to make the document a huge horking monster, but I am afraid of going overboard with it. Any thoughts?

I think you just need to write down all important design issues, and the assumptions you have made. This is the most important thing in the document.
For the length, there is not straight rule. As long as it covers all issues you wanna tell the grader, it is enough.

This subject was discussed some time ago, but I can't remember where. If you are really curious try a search. As I remember, there were plenty of opinions. The consensus was no more than 4-5 A4 sides, although Max Habibi, the author of a famous book on the exam, reckoned no more than 1 page! I have to say, that my own is way too large and I am in the process of ruthlessly pruning it. My target is to get it down to about 3 sides of A4 (font size 12).
happy pruning!

I am sorry this is not related to the topic but I have to ask this as I have been confused for quite a time hearing ranchers here talking about
"Max". Please pardon me for this question as being a foreigner, I have lost myself many times when people call others by short hand names, like
Bill for Williams.
although Max Habibi, the author of a famous book on the exam,

Is "Max" short for Mahran? I have bought a book which authored by "Mahran Habib", a Jeremy and a Terry. It is, as far as I have read a very good reference. Am I reading what you are talking about?
Thanks.

'Afraid so: Max.equals(Mehran). Occasionally, I'm also idiot, fool, baldy, and sweetheart, per my wife, depending on her mood.
Good luck on the exam

My design choices document was pretty short. 3 or 4 times tops, with the same number of sentences for each one. It was quite simplistic--and I got full points on the documentation portion.
