some doubts regarding SCJD

I am a student and am planning to do this certification and have few doubts regarding it..Kindly help.

* Could you clear SCJD just by reading books and programming or do you really need industrial experience ?
* Is a single machine/server enough to test your code or do you need mutiple machines/servers ?
* Are open source softwares enough to complete the assignment ?

Hi Pradeep

You don't need industrial experience. Some experience in programming helps you to do the assignment, but SCJD is also a great way to get experience as a developer. It will take longer to complete if you are applying patterns or use networking for the first time, but you will learn a lot from doing it all.

A single machine is fine for development, as you can run the network server and multiple clients on it. It's probably a good idea to test on more than one machine if you can before submitting though.

Finally, I just used Sun's Java 1.4 SDK and the Eclipse IDE for the project. The SDK isn't open source, but it's all free
