In my instructions under User Interface its stated that the name and/or location fields exactly match values specified by the user. At the same time in the supplied interface it asks to match 'Fred' to both 'Fred' and 'Freddy'. Any ideas!

Yes, the database and the business rules specify different searching criteria. there are two easy solutions to this:

1) let the database find all values that are partial matches on the key and then filter those in the business code.

2) you can append a character u0000 to the end of your search key and to all keys read from the database after triming off blanks. The database searches with now be exact match.
