I would like to take the java developer's exam, but I need a
couple of questions answered first. Does anyone have statistics on the number of people who upload the assignment and fail versus the number of people who upload the assignment and pass. In other words if they've
completed the written exam and everything does Sun release any statistics
of how many who have completed everything pass as opposed to how many fail.

I have another question too. Is the only place to purchase Max's book on
a website like Amazon. I noticed they had the trottier book at the local
Border's, but not Max's. I would like to purchase the Habbi book at a bookstore if I am able to. Thanks in advance.

Sun doesn't provide pass/fail statistics, but most people who use Max's book and this forum pass, usually with high scores.

I was able to purchase a copy of Max's book at a Chapters/Indigo store in Toronto. It would have been slightly cheaper if I'd bought it online, but I wanted to see it first. Having seen it, I would happily purchase it online.

Hi Karl

Welcome to JavaRanch and this forum.

I have another question too. Is the only place to purchase Max's book on a website like Amazon. I noticed they had the trottier book at the local Border's, but not Max's. I would like to purchase the Habbi book at a bookstore if I am able to.

You may have to ring a few bookstores if you want to find one that has it currently in stock. Alternatively, Borders still list Max's book, so you may be able to get your local store to order it in for you.

Regards, Andrew

Passing or failing is more of a personal thing than statistics. Also not following the directions explicitly can also cause failures, which doesn't mean that the developer isn't a good developer.

I actually failed the Beta because my command line was not 100% correct to the directions. The code in my assignment worked perfectly and definitely would have passed, I just didn't read the instructions thoroughly enough.

Good Luck and sign up and download the assignment.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the SCJD forum and am currently toying with the idea of doing the Developer Certification. Please enlighten me, what is "Max's book"? I went to the recommended reading links page but didn't find any book authored by "Max"! Please help.

Max refers to Mehran Habibi [b], and Max's book refers to [b]The Sun Certified Java Developer Exam with J2SE 1.4 .
