I am talking about server start up with server flag. I think I can assume that the server will be run on the same jvm as the one invoked the program. So I don't need to provide for host input field to user when invoked with server flag (of course, port is a required input field). Can I make this assumption? I am trying to disallow the invoke of server remotely.

Thanks

You cannot and should not make that assumption. On the contrary the assumption you should make is that the server will NOT run in the same JVM as the client.

I think what Andy is saying is that when he runs the server program on Host X, it is assumed that Host X is running the server... so why have a Host textbox?

Hey, Robert and Mark: what Robert said is what I meant. I understand that a client can be in different machine as server. However, I am asking if the program invoked with server mode that the jvm is just in "this" machine. Thanks
