Hi all,

Hopefully tomorrow I will upload my assignment(URLyBird assignment), but still I have some doubts about my understanding for the search operation, next is what I have written in my choices document.

The instructions document said It must allow the user to search the data for all records, or for records where the name and/or location fields exactly match values specified by the user. On first reading I understand it as following, the client application can return all database records or it can return records after searching name and/or location fields only, But the sentence search the data for all records make me give it another thought, it didnt said get all records but it said search all records, thats mean a search operation should be performed.

My final understanding was: you have two type of searches, the first you search all database records without specifying the name and location fields, the second is you search for database records after specifying the exact name and/or location fields, any fields other than name and location will be searched .

Also I was not sure of the following point, should the client be able to search rooms according to Date available and customerID, in another word should the client be able to search for all database fields, or just the fields make sense to search it.

I found it more logical to search for specified fields only, but because I used framework in designing client GUI I will be so easy to add any new fields in the future. and that was my choice.

So please If are seeing any thing wrong tell me before I upload.

Hi Omar,

I have the B&S assignment myself, but the way I interpret the instructions you stated is as follows:

The user must be able to:
a) search for records by name and/or location
b) select all VALID records

I wouldn't recommend adding extra possibilities besides the two stated in the instructions, because a) you won't get extra credit for it and b) you might get a deduction in your score if something is wrong with it.

Hope this is helpful.

I will assume the room is reserved if the 'needed date' < 'date available' and customer id is not null. So my search will return reserved rooms too but a validation will prevent the user from booking an already reserved room. Note: The needed date is not specified in requirements for my urlyBird assignment. I will assume it is needed and should be provided as a field in GUI. My requirement specifies that user should be able to reserve only 48 hours prior. So taking current date as needed date is vague.
