Client interface "future functionality enhancements"??

What does this sentence mean?
"Your user interface should be designed with the expectation of future functionality enhancements, and it should establish a framework that will support this with minimal disruption to the users when this occurs. "

Any advices will be appreciated?

I think the future functionality clause means that your application should be as easy to update as possible. For an example, check out this thread.
