Java 1.5

Hello!

Am new to this forum/site, but everybody told me it was great and a big help towards certification, so here I am.

I would like to do the developer certification (am already a Java 1.2 certified programmer), but I would prefer waiting for the exam to be updated to Java 1.5.

Does anybody have any information concerning when this might happen?

I plan on doing the programmer exam which upgrades my 1.2 to 1.5, since a lot has happened in between.

I guess the exact version of Java is important for the programmer certification, but less important for the developer certification. What are people's feelings about this?

I don't want to wait months and months with this, I am motivated right now and I need to capitalise before it fades. :-)

Thanks for any information/comments,
Morten Lauritsen

Hi Morten,
I am waiting new version of Java Developer exam too.
I think Sun Microsystem will launch new Java Developer exam after Sun Microsystem launch Java Programmer Exam version 1.5

Correct me if I am wrong...

I do wish SUN released SCEA 1.4 first before she consider to review SCJD!

Hi again!

Good point about SUN releasing SCEA 1.4 before SCJD 1.5 ... I guess that's a good argument for signing up for SCJD 1.4, I don't want to wait months and months... I have time and am motivated now, I might not in 6 months...

Do they offer upgrade exams for the developer certification? It is easily done for the programmer certification (just ask some questions concerning whatever changed), but I don't see how they would go about upgrading your developer certification. Does this mean I'd have to do the SCJD all over again for 1.5? I probably wouldn't.

Actually, does anybody know if I can do the SCJD 1.4 if I am only SCJP 1.2? I would like to get cracking on the developer certification, I want to wait for the SCJP 1.2 -> 1.5 upgrade exam to be available.

Thanks a lot for your input!

Isn't the Developer exam unrelated to specific Java releases? Mine never says it's the 1.4 exam. In fact, the only statement made on Java releases is the following:

You may develop your code using any implementation of the Java 2 platform, but the submission that you return must have been tested and shown to work under a production (not development) version of the Sun Microsystems' Java 2 platform and that platform must not have been superseded by a new production version for more than 18 months by the time you make your submission.

Since Java 1.5 is still Java 2, I am solving my assignment using 1.5.

Frans.

Java 1.5 indeed is NOT Java 2, it is Java 5.

From what I heard, there is no intention on updating the SCJD at this time, I believe the directions state that you can use any production release Java SDK and Java 5.0 is in production.

The next exam they are working on is the Architect exam.

Java 5.0 is still part of the Java2 Platform. The full name is "Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE platform) 5.0". The 5.0 is simply the version number.
