hi .. why is a cookie required to lock or unlock the database field. if a field is locked, who cares who owns the lock. it will only be unlocked after the data base has been written to.

If you have the version that uses cookies in the lock and unlock methods, this is to ensure that only the client that locked the record is the one that unlocks it. It also ensures that only the thread that locked the record preforms operations on it. If you didn't take this into account, you can introduce error into your application.
