Implement the create function or not?

According to my specs, I need to implement a create method which creates a new record in the database.

However, is it true that it is only mandatory to implement this method correctly, but not mandatory to provide this function in the client GUI?

That is correct. You need to implement it in Data.java, but you do not need to provide any functionality for it in the GUI.

I believe that implementing it in the GUI exceeds the requirements. If you provide extra functionality, you don't earn extra points, but you certainly open the door to losing points!

And you know what? That means I'm not going to implement it in the GUI. Save me trouble.

So I assume that the same thing applies for the delete function?

That's correct. The only functionality you have to implement in the GUI is whatever is specifically listed for the GUI - in my case just Search and Book functionality.
