I do not get the format of the database at all. I expected just a file with a series of lines. Could someone explain it?

Hi Robert,

The database file is a binary file(you can visualize it with a hex editor). In this file header you can find ONE AFTER EACH OTHER the information about your database structure. You can access it using a file pointer.
NOTE : because the file is a binary (not a char) file you can not have "a series of lines".
Take a look also on RandomAccessFile from java api docs.

Regards,
Mihai
