I understand we can either use RMI on JRMP or Serializable objects over Sockets.
So would this leave JINI out of the picture?

One more question though. Does plain old RMI use JRMP by default? I mean how do i know if it is using this protocol and not some other? Must i specify it in one way?

I'm using the rebind() method to bind the objects in the server and the Naming.lookup("rmi://host ort/serverName") to retrieve the remote objects.

Yes. If you want to use IIOP you must specify the "-iiop" option when compiling the stubs with rmic. For more information on this subject that you must not use in the assignment take a look at Sun's RMI-IIOP Programmer's Guide.
