Hi all thanks for your replies they have really helped with my design.
A question here on the 48 hour booking rule.

It states in the assignment specification "They take bookings only within 48 hours of the start of room occupancy".

I can see that this clearly means that the room cannot be booked before 48 hours before it can be occupied.

But what about if the current time and date is after the room could be occupied.

Also there is nothing in the specification that the user must be able to specify the number of days they will book the room for, must i include this or just use a default number of days?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Hi Patrick,

Please find my reply in this thread. I believe this is the best solution to the 48 hours "syndrome"

I am also struggling with this 48 hour thingy.

I have read all the threads and by the time I got to the end I had forgotten what the question was

So just for ease of reading could you summarise the decisions ?

To me it seems like two mains ones:

1. Don't implement it and clearly say that you didn't and why you didn't in your documentation.

2. Implement it.

Of course if you choose the second then more questions raise their heads e.g.

* Do we start at 12:00 AM on day ?
* Do we provide way for user to turn off 48 hour rule so that the thing can be easily tested ?

The lazy man in me says Option 1 but the fear of failure says go Option 2.
Who will win ?..beats me

Patrick,

I had the same question some time ago - but I was cleared that the rooms can be booked only for a SINGLE night. You may check here.

Ori,

The general idea with this assignment is "don't do more than you have to". I've read of some people who failed just because they went too far implementing "nice to have" features.
BTW Not my reply is the most valuable there but this link I point to there

Cheers

Ok I'm thinking I will implement the rule.
Its not much code and didn't take too long to figure out.

My question is does it make sense to provide a way to disable this rule ?
Maybe like a checkbox on the GUI.

My reasoning is that otherwise the chances of actually being able to book a record are slim.
So I could say in choices.txt that I left option to turn it off on GUI just for testing purposes.

Sounds reasonable ?
Anyone done something like this ?
