can i use the jdk 1.5.0 for the developer assignment ?
if so is it a good idea to use the java.util.concurrent classes to develop the database server locking etc functionality to support multi-user environment ?

Thanks

Good day and welcome to the Ranch!
Well yes you can use jdk 1.5 for the Developer assignment! However the jdk1.4 series is still valid for the developer exam only until March 2006! So i suppose using jdk1.5 would be a wise choice! Yes i think you could use the concurrent class for your Locking Mechanism as long as your document doesnt say you can't explicitly use it! Have a nice day!

Throughout this exercise, you must use exclusively the Java 2 platform. You may develop your code using any implementation of the Java 2 platform, but the submission that you return must have been tested and shown to work under a production (not development) version of the Sun Microsystems' Java 2 platform and that platform must not have been superseded by a new production version for more than 18 months by the time you make your submission.
Unquote.

I count 3 times Java 2 platform: does this mean I must use 1.4 and have to submit my assignment before March 2006 (or else buy a new assignment) ? Or can I use Java 5 platform (1.5) anyway. (Sorry for asking, just need to be sure)

I did buy my assigment January 2005, but for personal reasons I just got started about a mont ago.

Hi Peter & Steve,

Welcome to JavaRanch and this forum.

You may use the Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0 for the assignment. This is also explicitly stated in the JavaRanch SCJD FAQ.

Regards, Andrew
