I would be very interested to learn how did you guys promote JavaRanch. How did it all start, how so many talented people joined...Was there ever a sponsor involved, or was it always enthusiastst-run...It doesn't really fall into any Java categories, I know...I am starting my own virtual community (RusUSA.com), and will appreciate any advice.
You can send me a private message if you think this should be discussed in private.

I predict mad success for your site, Shurik.
Why? Because it talks about me in some funny language.
Look at the company that page is in. Google Groups talks about me in some funny language too. Look at the success it has!
pick your favorite:
Michael "any doubt that it's all about me?" Matola
Michael "do I have to include a smiley?" Matola
Michael "cards anyone?" Matola

I was just expressing my amazement of your language skills to some poster I've never heard of, who was hiding under the suspicious name "SiteMap"
How about
Michael "I can speak anything I want, da!" Matola?
Your words into God's ears...

And this siteMap guy expressed his amusemend of new lernt from you fact that cats are normally female in Russian and quoted a piece of poetry as a proof.
So you think that Shura's site is designed to promote Michael Motola?

Well, you could put a link in a JavaRanch signature...

That doesn't work too well, unless one posts every hour...
Anyway, may I suggest a "Web and System Architecture" forum for Javaranch? It can be good to learn how to build systems right using Java (and websites for that matter). I've seen numerous posts scattered around on this...
What I found out is that a good website architecture is directly tied into how easy it is to promote it.
