In the instruction that we have, the maximum point for the server part is 40.

But my server part is only one class that is called Server, that creates and binds the ConnectionFactory to the LocateRegistry and contains small GUI for shutting-down or configure of the server.

Is it all that we need? Or do I forget something?
What will be checks under this point?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi Elena,

I think the concept of "Server" may be a little broader than what you are thinking of.

For example, your Data class methods will not be throwing RemoteException. So you will need to have either an Adapter class in your server or have your business logic on the server.

So it is not as though you are wrong with what you have posted, however if you can broaden your idea of what is the server, you may start seeing some more classes and interdependancies that can have an influence on your 40 marks.

Also, for what it's worth, the FBNS assignment broke down server as follows (from the JavaRanch SCJD FAQ):
Server Design (Total 53)
  • locking (30)
  • error handling (8)
  • search algorithm (14)
  • Note that the locking within Server was considered seperate from the locking within Data class - indicating (at least to my mind) that Sun thought that you might have to do some work in the Server just to get locking to work correctly in the Data class (this is more true in classes without cookies). Move that 14 points for search alogorithms into the Data class' points, and we are left with 38 points for server design in the old way of marking - pretty close.

    Regards, Andrew
