The assignment states

"The platform must not have been superseded by a new production version for more than 18 months by the time you make your submission."

I checked the following site and found out that we can only work with jdk1.5 (no previous version allowed).

I am guessing all the folks out there must be having the same requirement.

Java 1.5 was release on 29th September 2004, so you only have until 29th March to submit if you want to use 1.4.2. However code written with 1.4.2 should be fine - you will just need to compile and test it under 1.5.

cheers

If your code can be compiled and runed under 1.5 then is no problem.
More if your code can be compiled with 1.4 then is no problem but take care on deperecated methods.

Yeah, just use a newer jvm. There aren't a lot of obsolete stuffs going forward from 1.4.2 to 1.5
