Hi all,
I am having trouble deciding what kind of layout to use for my main window.
Currently I'm playing with several ideas: use a popup search window, put the search window on top (NORTH) and underneath it the JTable, using a card layout with different cards for search criteria and search results.
So many different possibilities to choose from ...
However, the layout design that is my favorite, for the moment, is the "sidebar style" layout that is used like when you hit Start | Search in Windows (even though I am developing my project on RHEL linux). Below is an image of that just so you know what I mean.
I was just wondering if anybody else is using this gui design and whether you think it is a good idea for the scjd exam.

Regards, Ronald.

I know this is Micro$oft stuff, but hey the layout is still ok

I like the sidebar style, I think people are familar with the UI from websites (Expedia, Ebay). Taking the workflow of booking into consideration I think you could argue that using this approach the user starts at the top left a works to the right.

Personally I don't like the popup search window, I think it's o.k for text editors, but in our application searching is one of the main functions so I think it should be easy and accessible.

Jason.
