need clarification on requirement

in my instruction, I saw this line "Non-network mode:The operating mode is selected using the single command line argument that is permitted. Architecturally, this mode must use the database and GUI from the networked form, but must not use the network server code at all."

I don't understand what this line exactly means. If I implemented non-network
mode by directly invoking Data class without RMI, does this fulfill the requirement? What confused me is how to achive that "must use the database and GUI from the networked form, but must not use the network server code at all". Can anyone help?

That sound fine to me. The network server code in your case would be your RMI wrapper code for the data class. By calling data directly you are bypassing this code thus fufilling the requirements in full.
