Hi Ranchers,

Is it safe to extend the functionality in the DB interface to suit your own design or should all data access be through the Sun supplied interface? (I was thinking of making the columns data driven from the schema section of the supplied data file. (Would allow for the 'expectation of future functionality enhancements').

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

If you want to pass the exam, I suggest not to touch DB interface.

I think it is the best to be sure that you pass. I guess that Sun does not like if you change DB interface.

But I think you can add additionally method in a different interface that you implement and just use the new methods instead of the DB methods.

Hi Lucy,

Yeah I was not thinking of altering the Sun supplied DB interface, more like just not using some of the features, because its use of primitive data types was becoming limiting. (Basically I wanted to use a lot more collections and value objects).

However, I changed my mind in line with the general discussions and decided to challenge myself to write the application limiting myself to the Sun interface.

Thanks!

Tom
