I did SCJP with Java 1.4 and so there was no lock classes concept in that. Now I am doing doing B&S and though there are lockRecord and unlock methods so my question:
1) I have to use lock class anyways no matter what version I am using of Java or I have to use Java 5 anyways.
2) Can you suggest any good article on Locking

thanks in advance

You can build your locking upon synchronized blocks and use Object's wait/notify. You don't need to use ReentrantLock class or similiar one.

SCJP for 1.5 also doesn't contain any question regarding java.util.concurrent.*.

Good introduction to SCJD problems can be found in Andrew Monkhouse's book.
