Hi all

I'm preparing for SCJD and almost have the assignment on my hands but before of that my manager is asking how much time am i going to spend?.

So in order to answer i was revisiting some topics about it and some people say it takes 120 hours, some 200 hours, some more people spent more than a year.

I'm willing to spend at least 1 hour at day, but i know there are going to be days that it won't be possible so i created this topic to hear how much time are people going to say if they were asked to.

I'm thinking on saying 8-12 months but please write your thoughts about this. It will be really helpful and appreciated.

I think it can take quite a while to read material, but it all depends on you, it's hard to say.

I've been doing the Data implementation and reading A LOT on read/write lock material (not just this forum). My Data is exactly 300 lines of code (without comments) and it took me about 2 weeks.

I read a post where people were comparing their number of lines, it went from 1000 to 3000. Number of classes went from about 20 to 50...

I should have about 25 classes when everything is completed.

All this to say, writing the assignment is nothing (or not that big), but making sure you're writing the good thing is something else, and for me I read a lot (Should I use an ArrayList, or this or that, why ?)

I estimate 4 months for me.

bye,
Alex

It took me the spare time I could find during six months of full time work. My estimate is that it took 120-150 hrs. For me the SCJD was the first client-server application I ever developed and the biggest programming task I've ever done. -Just to give you an idea of my level of programming.

I think that the most important thing is to focus on not doing any fancy solutions that are not necessary. Simplicity is key for the SCJD as I see it. I got a 392/400 and my solution was very simple.

Best of luck in your SCJD
Tobias
