B&S 2.2.3 Network Mode & Non-network Mode

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi,

My requirement says the application must be a conventional client-server system. i.e
1. Serverside data management system - Server
2. UI - Client
3.and network connection between Server and UI. - RMI/Socket.

I have understood the above requirement as follows

Serverside data management system means db and data handling classes will be in server. In otherwords, server will do all db processing.
UI is just delegate all actions to server. In otherwords, UI will be a thin client.
Communication between client & server will be RMI or Sockets.

I have doubts in the following section.

1.Non-Networked mode
2.Network Communication approach.

I have understood the above requirement as follows,

1. DB is in local machine where client is running (standalone). In this case, I will directly invoke a class which does all db operations.

2. DB & Server are running in one machine , client is running on another machine. Communication between the server & client is RMI/Socket.

Does above design okay or Do I need to consider anything else?

I found one more must requirement in the instructions .

Your choice of RMI or serialized objects will not affect your grade, but no other approach is acceptable. In either case, the program must allow the user to specify the location of the database, and it must also accept an indication that a local database is to be used, in which case, the networking must be bypassed entirely. No authentication is required for database access.

Does it mean the db should present in both server & local machine?

Thanks

If the application runs in local mode (alone), the database file must in the local machine, if the application runs in networked mode, the database file must be in the server machine.

Hope this help.
