Hi Gang!
I just got back from three days in South Florida where I attended two interviews for a Java Programming position.
I am extremely tired (I'm not used to driving that much!) so I'll start looking at messages tomorrow.
It's nice to be back!
See Ya!
Tony

Hi Tony, nice to see you're back, been a little quiet around here at the ranch lately. So uh, have you picked out a color yet for your new company provided BMW? Heh, best of luck on your job search. Regards, Joe

Welcome back, Tony! I was mostly unavailable today myself, but I'm sure Maha Anna has everything under control. Naturally we all want to hear details once you're rested.

Well, this is the scoop. I am about to accept a "contracting" position with Office Depot in Delray Beach (South Florida) through a third party. After three months, I could come on board as a "permanent" employee with a decent sign-in bonus and all benefits etc.
As "contractor" for the first three months I'd have no benefits but would be paid an hourly rate. I won't mention figures, but I can say that South Florida is not known for hugh salaries even in high tech. It's not like Silicon Valley where, as you may have already read and heard in the news, you can be HOMELESS AND make $50K/yr. That's no life for me.
Also, I have to consider that I have no "professional" Java programming experience. Even then my certification score plus the modest programs that I have on the web, do indicate to the concerned technical manager (like the one in Office Depot) that I can program in Java and will become even better in the very near future. This particular manager took the time to follow the links in my on-line resume and so was able to see, for example, my participation in this forum.
I'll most likely get another offer from the other company, a consulting company whose main customer in Ft. Lauderdale is the Latino Division of a large international bank.
Finally, I can say that Office Depot is starting to do a lot of stuff with Java...
The only disadvantage, and it's because of the initial "temp" situation, relocation benefits don't apply to me and since I have not being earning any money for some time now, I may even have to borrow $$$ to relocate. That part sucks :-) But then that's how the business is run... The sign-in bonus is in part to offset that expense.

Welcome back Tony!
You have come a long way. Don't be upset.Everybody (really) who are in good position, would have been through a temp pos first. After some time , I am sure you will be giving carrier advice to many people. My very best wishes for you in your career.
