What�s up with the obsession to get very high scores on the exam? In my opinion, any score that passes the exam is sufficient enough; anything above that score is just a bonus of insignificant importance. I just don�t get people that are disappointed by a score of 90-95%

It's not an obsession by any means. It's a matter of very practical reality. I am leaving the part about personal satisfaction out. Believe me, unless you have a year or more of professional experience as a Java programmer, a score of 98%-100% will get the attention of prospective employers much faster than a mere passing grade of 71%. That's how the business world is. Independently of whether we like it or not.

It is true that a good score will impress a potential employer. but simply passing can make the difference that causes your resume to get you an interview.
OK, so I didn't score so well myself :-)
