Hi All,
Just an jour ago i passed SCJP with 92% . After answering and reviewing i thought at the most 2 answers may be wrong. But somewhere i made some more careless mistakes. Neverthless happy to have passed the exam.
Many thanks to all the people participated in this forum, especially to Paul, Maha, Ajith, Tony, Jim, Marcus, satya5......................etc.
My background:
I am a software consultant with 8 years of experience, only in Mainframes. But done lots of programming in C, C++ and had exposure in Object oriented programming.
( I am 2 years junior to Maha in college ).
Regarding my preparation:
In Dec'99 i started reading Java whenever time permitted. I followed Java2 - complete reference by Patrick Naughton and Herbret Schild.
After finishing the whole bookd, i thought of preparing for SCJP. Tried some Mock exams, could score only around 60 to 65% including Marcus.
Then i read Java2- certification study guide by RHE from April.
Came across Java ranch the day Maha passed SCJP. That was the turning point. I was fully guided by this site. I learnt lot of intricacies in Java language from this site.
Started reading JLS, then Bruce Eckel's Thinking in Java and Sun's Tutorial, API documentation.
I found myself confident in the concepts - my Mock exam scores also boosted my confidence.
So decided to give a try and here i am.
Details about exam:
The exam was easy. I took 1hr and 10 minutes to finish the exam. Then revised for 30 to 40 mintues (corrected 1 or 2). The remaining 10 minutes i tried to think on some of the question i marked doubtful. I stared at the 2 questions for the remaining minutes ( which i felt was vague. The moment clock hit 2-hrs it automatically printed the results with the score.
Break up:
1 question in collections
2 to 3 in Thread
1 or 2 in garbage collection
conversion casting - 3 to 4
identifiers - 1
size of variables - 2
eventlisteners - 2 to 3
Exceptions - 2 to 3
Layout - including (GridBagLayout) - 2 to 3
Classes Inner classes - 4 to 5
fundamentals - 5 to 6
String/StringBuffer/Wrapper classes - 2 to 3
overriding /overloading - 3 to 5
is a / has a - 3 to 4
IO - 3 questions

Type of questions: (totally i got 59 questions)
5 to 6 fill in the blanks (very clear, no ambiguity)
20 to 25 - multiple choice
remaining - single choice
There were no true or false type questions
I will send a separate mail about the mock exam scores and the difficulty levels.
Also, i would like to thank my wife, who played a great part in taking care of household activities on her own. She is also working in MS-Access/HTML, bit of Mainframe. Soon she will be participating in this forum, to get herself certified.
Best of Luck to all the aspirants.
I will continue to visit and participate this forum.
Note: I havenot actively participated in JavaRanch, due to Time difference.Currently i am working in swiss. As, by the time i log on, somebody would have answered. I will my best try to participate actively.
Cheers
Sankar

Congrats!
For fill in the blanks, does the question specify whether we need to write ";" or omit it?
Also I was wondering which one is more recommmended-> between Rober Heller's certification guide and Khalid's study guide.
Thanks alot& cheers to all!

Congratulations!
Could you please tell me a bit more about this book. It is cited
quite often here.
I am a newcomer here.
I started preparing for the exam with Jamie Jaworski book
"Java 2 Certification".

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
