Hi all.. I have just passed the SCJP with 97%. thanks to all of u and marcus green, i joined javaranch some 3-4 months back, in early may, as a novice java programmer..
http://www.javaranch.com/ubb/Forum24/HTML/001424.html
well thats pretty much what i did.. except that i studied exam cram as well alongwith RHE, and various notes by all the ppl.
thougth the exam was much easier than most mocks, coz there were less ambiguities (there was one, but I got that one right).. and u get more alert, thus reducing (if not completely eliminating) the silly mistakes
i spent most of the time during preperation of lang fundas stuff and much less on API cramming, restricted myself to the Objectives and never bothered too much about getting questions out of that wrong in the mock exams. think it turned out to be a good idea in the end.
cheers,
vivek

All the 'in things' you have listed are the hot things too. You can either focus on SCJD, or if you are not keen on next level of certification, you can start learning the 'in things'
Checkout the Servelets and EJB forums here on the javaranch. If you search for books you will find some good discussions. Also, a great EJB - Mastering EJB book is available for free!! at www.theserverside.com It is only for a limited time, so download it now. Sun's Tutorial is a good place to start too. You can learn the basics there and then buy a book if it interests you. Checkout the O'Reilly series on Servelets, it is pretty popular.
If I were you, I'd focus on EJB and Servlets and skip (plain)javabeans and CORBA. No doubt they are related, but learn the implementations first You will not lose anything by not reading the CORBA specs( read EJB sepcs, though, which is downloadable from Sun's website ).
Good luck( and hope my 2 cents worth helps you re-orient yourself )
Ajith

Ajith,
When I view the pdf file downloaded from www.theserverside.com the diagrams are not displayed properly - they are all black. Is this because I'm using the wrong Acrobat Reader version (I've got 3.0) - or is it just something I have to live with.
Thanks,
Tony.

Tony,
You are probably running the wrong Adobe Reader version. Get the latest one, it is free!!
