Dear friends, I would like to share my grief with you. I appeared for the java 2 programmer exam today and to my surprise i got the new exam to be solved in just 90 minutes.Unfortunately i failed. I got 59% whereas passing % is 61%. As per the site(suned.com), the database was supposed to change from 4th October'2000, but i got the new exam today. I felt cheated as there was no proper information about this. Authorised centers for conducting these exams are also blank about this. One thing more i found was that today few candidates still got the old exam to be solved in 120 min. whereas few unfortunate one's like me got the new version. I am totally baffled at this. My months of preparation, time , money has gone waste just because of improper information. Had i known earlier that new exam will start from 3rd oct., i would have definitly postponed my exam. After completing the exam , i could not get enough time to do revision which is most important. And my speed was not that bad. There were few lengthy codes (19 lines). Friends, i need your support at this hour otherwise people like us will always suffer. First the sudden unannounced fee increase to Rs. 7000 and then this new exam. My question to all of you is should not it be informed before taking the exam that so and so changes have taken place so that candidate knows in advance rather than getting a shock.(I really got a shock today and was literally trembling for first 10 minutes) I was totally going as per the info hosted on site that the database will change from 4th Oct. I am really depressed and only someone who has gone thru this can understand my position. Rs. 7000 is not a small amount. I feel that issues like these shud be taken very serously. I am planning to write directly to Sun Microsystems Inc, USA. for this and would appreciate if you people support me on this as ultimately we are the suuferers. I know how much i struggled just to get myself registered for this exam and now this result. Regards
Rohit, That is really bad luck ! There obviously must have been a mixup either at the exam center or at Sun if two different tests were administered on the same day. I hope Sun will take the circumstances into account and, at the least, discount you're next voucher. All the best, Jane
Rohit, That is bad luck . Did you take necessary steps to inform sun by emailing them? Can u give some more details about the exam like how the exam was. what was the difficulty level? was the difficulty level more than the mock exams? That will greatly help the fellow ranchers who are going to write SCJP2 from Oct 4, 2000. Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance and Good Luck for your exam. Sunitha. S

Rohit, I would adivse you to take up the matter urgently with Sun. They are clearly at fault here and cannot deny it. All their sites state new exams are from Oct 4. They should give you a new voucher.
I am very sorry to hear that, in fact i am shocked myself . I was supposed to give exam on 18th, and i have no idea what is in store for me, what sort of questions are coming? have they included servelets, and JDBC in it?
Too bad Rohit..I certainly understand how you're feeling right now. Don't lose heart. I strongly feel you should contact the Sun Educational Services in India. Here is the list of contacts in major Indian cities. D I checked again to make sure the new syllabus is effective from October 4th. So, you should be entitled for a fair treatment and another chance to sit for the exam without the fees. Remember, the Sun authorised testing centre are not answerable for any such mixups. They only act as a facility to administer the exam. Your grievance are better heard if you speak to Sun Educational Services directly. I wish you good luck Ajith

Sorry to hear about the unpleasant surprise and not to sound harsh or anything, but I was overjoyed to hear of the exam changes. I am writting on Thursday and to know that I only have to get 36 correct instead of 42 way more than makes up for the lost half hour. You were only one correct answer from passing. I really doubt that the 'trade-off' for the extra half hour would have given you the opportunity to correct SEVEN of your answers. I could maybe see 3 or 4 at the most. I wonder that IF you would have gotten that one additional mark & passed, that you'd be singing a different tune, (LUCKY!) because under these circumstances you'd have passed, and with the 2 hour exam, I suspect you probably wouldn't have ANYWAYS!!! I'm not too worried about it since I've found that I've been completing the practice exams in about 1 hour without rushing. By the way, I also heard from SEVERAL reliable sources that the new exam is slightly easier.
rohit, really sorry to hear that. i took up the exam just today morning i.e 3rd october at 10am est. hope it dint have anything to do with the time difference in the US. i got the same old pattern 59 questions, 120 minutes, i could complete in 60 minutes though. iam sure sun will re-imburse you. and all the best. dont loose hope.
I am very sorry to hear that. Don't loose your hope my friend, try to contact the test center ASAP. Give us a mail if you want to need any support. I am gonna take the test next week, how do you feel the new test compare to the old one? Your help do help us too.
Hi Rohit, I am really sorry, but you know what, it might not have been an "error" on Sun's part after all. You may have been felled by a duel blow by the "Timezone Factor" and sheer bad luck. In all probability you gave the exam late in the day(India time) and by that time it may already have been 4th Oct in Australia from where Sylvan centres in India download their papers. Your bad luck played a role because the center you gave the exam at ran out of the exam sets and had to initiate a fresh download(one download is ussually good for 15 Tests). So had been in the earlier batch of 15, you would have recieved the old version. But i agree that Sun should make a special case for you and provide you with fresh vouchers(if not free, atleast in the old price, but even then you wud have to wait another 2 weeks due to Sylvan policy). Sorry if i depressed you even more, that was not my intention. Himan Sri ps: BTW how different was the new version from the old one minus the time difference ??
First of all, always prepare for the worst in life, just in case it does happen. Second, Corps. and Governments are very bad at being organized one must always "pull teeth" to get correct information out of them. Anyway, You were wronged and I think that is not fair. you should have got a piece of paper that tells you how you did on overloading and overridding, IO streams etc...
Rohit, Whatever is gone is gone. Relax and face it boldly. Make a serious note of what has happened and send a mail to Sun. Now this exam is not the only thing in the world, is it? I believe quite strongly that u have gained a lot from the preparation itself isnt it? Try making use of whatever u have learnt during the exam period, such as small projects. Remember do not loose hope and will. Definitely you will have a bright future. Relax buddy!
I totally agree with ROHIT BEHL.Even I felted like Cheated.I had appeared for the exam today and was surprised to see that the database has already changed which was supposed to change from 4th of October.
Rohit, I am quite sorry to hear about what has happenend to you. Please don't loose heart and make it a point to escalate this issue with Sun educational services. Do remmeber that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
Really sorry Rohit. I understand how you would have been when you saw the new exam. Plese DO write to Sun. Atleast you must be allowed to write another exam without paying again. Please do keep in touch with us. regds maha anna
Some Suggestions 1) Write to SUN to see what they can do. 2) Most importantly, Get Over It. For all the time and $$ you spent on the exam, you owe it to yourself to take the next exam with a clear head and positive attitude. 3) Never give up.
You can call Sun Educational Services at 8004228020. Yes, you can call from India for free ! Here is how you do that. You need a phone with ISD and touch tone. Then dial 0001178004228020(ATT) and you should get the rings. If an operator lifts the phone, just tell her/him that you want 800 422 8020. If you want you can replace 000117 with 000127(MCI) It is free in both the cases.
hi Rohit, Better luck next time Rohit,That may be ur bad luck for increasing the hike in fee to Rs 7000 and change of pattern. u have written first time or second time rohit. if it is first time write for second time rohit.dont get frustated.all u have to do is put up effort Rohit. some times u cant help it out.dont leave the subject. dont u know rohit ,before writing the exam that it was new pattern, and the syllabus is same or different. any way i regret ur feelings. when i wrote the exam i was also disappointed first, later i passed with diffficult. that was a bad luck for increase in hike in fee and change of patttern suresh gouru firstname.lastname@example.org /virginia *****motivate ur self and motivate others ******
