hi guys,
u might not have heard much abt. me 4 i am not a active member of the group. i gave the exam today at 1.00 pm indian standard time & passed with 91%. i am very happy :-) :-) & wish the best 4 all u guys out there.
EXAM:
THREADS: i suppose everybody wants 2 hear about them. well they r TOUGH no doubt abt. that. questions r long abt 30 lines of code . it is the funda of synchronization they play with. i scored 71% in these. i had abt. 5 questions out of which 3 had codes os abt. 30 lines each. the code as such is not difficult but make sure u understand them correctly. even khalid's book is not enough . go through all of maha anna's discussion on threads ( & everything else on it)

IO: average : go through Khalid's book that's what is needed & enough.
i scored 77% in lang. fundamentals & 50% in lang package. i had got 2 very poorly worded theory questions ,1 from lang & the other from language where i think i went wromg.
rest all codes ranged from 6 to 18 lines , 12 on an average & were easy 2 grasp. theory questions were less.
Garbage C,UTIL: easy questions. very basic.
rest all were of average difficulty with arourd 2-3 difficult.
i would personally rate the exam 6.5 (1-10, 10-most difficult)
Background & preparation:
Time:
i prepared 4 abt. 4 months starting from scratch. i had done C++ before in my college course.
presently working 4 a good software firm but not on Java
:-( , but that will not b for long :-)
Books:
khalid's programmer guide to java cert.
exam cram.
(i had taken RHE for a week from my friend)
had read the JLS earlier.(not competely though :-) )
Sites.
don't go anywhere except maha-anna's site. it's excellent, i had taken most of the mocks & was scoring aroud 90% in each of them. i had scored 80% in khalid's mock the previous day.
visited java ranch regurarly.
Tips:
write code lots of it. don't tell urself that u could read the code. that's good but u have 2 rite programs 2 b confident.
conentrate more on the basics of array initialization & stuff. do not take them lightly.
abt. notes: well believe me , u already must b having lots of them & u don't need any more.
Thanks:
2 my parents 4 supporting me . to my friends david & llirian 4 helping me when i got stuck.2 mahaanna the queen of java:-) & all java ranch moderators and sherrifs ajit, paul, tony, mahaputraIs (sorry if i am missing anu names) marcaus green 2 4 his excellent tutorial(please update ur threads section) & all others who have provided free mocks over the net.
well that's it from my side.would love 2 help if any help is needed. will b partying tonight & start learning adv.java from next week.. once again all the best 4 all of u.
chao,
Vishal Chowdhary
