I would say start with RHE book to begin with and make that your core book (just my opinion). At the same time also go through other certification book(Khalid) as well as some other books if you can get access to. Some good books:
Thinking in Java (Bruce Eckel)
CoreJava 2 fundamentals
Anyways whatever you reda make one book as uyour core book whihc you know in and out and then do a lot o f supplementary reading, plus go through javaranch posts.

Check for the objectives here : http://suned.sun.com/USA/certification/progobj.html#Java2
Get Java concepts clear from RHE book. If you thorough with concepts read Khalid's. This is a very good book.
