1. I have observed in RHE that one way to use a BorderLayout is
setLayout(new BorderLayout())
add("North", comp);
is this correct ?
I know that add(comp, BorderLayout.NORTH) is valid but am confused about the top one.

2.What is the default priority of a newly created thread, is it 5 or does it inherit it , and from where ?

3. is char a signed or unsigned integer type and what does signed or unsigned mean ?

thanks

A newly created thread does inherit it's priority from the thread that created it.

Char is unsigned that means it contains positive numbers only.

In BorderLayout'
add(component,BorderLayout.NORTH)== add("North,component)
According to RHE, The default priority is 5, but all newly created threads have their priority set to that of the creating thread.
char is an unsigned intergral type.
