Hi. I have made an agreement with my university coordinator to complete the Java 2 Programmer Exam before the end of December. I have taken a university class in C++ (& OOP), and a VB course, but other than that, I have no other programming experience. I am teaching myself Java out of a book (Ivor Horton's Beginning Java 2), and have completed the Java basics already (variables, calculations, decisions/loops, arrays/strings) and have just started classes.
I have looked at the exam aims from the sun website, but I am trying to get an idea from others who have done the exam: did I bite off more than I can chew? Is five hours a week for 6 months sufficient, or have I screwed myself ?
Thanks for your advice, it is greatly appreciated.

Anything is possible as long as you are willing to work at it and really learn the material. I wish you luck in your endeavors. I can only offer this, the more you code as you learn the better off you will be.

Sounds a reasonable plan, make sure you write lots and lots of small classes to test the principles and browse the web sites like this one.
