I just downloaded the jsdk1.3 from sun's site for linux, and when I got the rpm package, the file which I expected to end in .rpm ended in .rpm.bin instead. What is a .bin? and how do I extract the .rpm from it? Please help.
Thanks,
Sean

Hi Sean,
.bin stands for 'binary'. The install instructions are located at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3.0_01/jre/install-linux.html
They explain how the file is used.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Jane.
I figured it stood for binary. Since I'm new to linux, I had no idea how to go about installing it. Somebody explained to me that a .bin in linux is like a .exe in windows. I should've looked further on sun's site for the instructions. Thanks for your help.

Your welcome Sean. I learned something new, had no idea a .bin under Linux was the equivalent of an .exe
