Hi, everyone,
I realize that current Java2 programmer
certification exam is new and took effect
back in Oct 2000. It seems that all the
study guides/books out in the market were
published prior to Oct 2000.
Does anyone know of any study guide/book
is written for the new exam version?
Or anybody thinks that current books
available are still applicable for my
preparation to the Java 2 programmer
certification exam?
your help/suggestion is very much
appreciated.

The Exam Objectives did NOT change - there was a slight clarification of wording and thats it. The only change to the style of the questions is an increase in the number of questions that use code examples and an increase in the length of some of the code examples. Questions with long code now use a popup window to present the code separately from the question text.
The questions in the new set are slightly harder, as shown by the lowering of the passing percent from 70 to 61.

Hi Marian,

I bought "The complete Java 2 certification study guide" by Simon Roberts and al a few days ago. This is the second edition of the book and it was published in september 2000, AFTER Sun decided to rewrite the exam (middle of 2000). So with this guide (second edition), you still get the latest information.
I don't know about the other study guides, even then this one is supposed to be the best (see the review in "The Bunkhouse").
Hope this helps !

The reviews of these books are in the bunkhouse at:
http://www.javaranch.com/bunkhouse/bunkhouse_Certification.jsp
If you use the link from there to buy the book at amazon, then JavaRanch gets a few pennies to save up towards our upgrade (that Paul is always promising ). If you don't do this, we might have to resort to a bake sale I do better code than cookies!!
