Check out RHE 2nd Edition. They have a pretty good discussion of the GridBagLayout. The Java Tutorial has a good explaination of the GridBagLayout as well. I got quite a few questions regarding the AWT on my test, so I would say it is an important topic to know, especially the GridBagLayout. Also, know what are the default layout managers for different container classes.
