I am new to this group

Hi everybody,
I am new to this site.Can u all give me some information abt JCP.
Is it worth taking it.b coz now-a-days java is outdated.
I am a B.E graduate (India)and looking for a good job.
will the certification help me to get employed.
How many months r required to prepare for jcp.
i hope and wish this site will help me towards my career and certification.
pls send in u'r suggestions.

1. I have cleared the SCJP ( 86%) with 2 months of study - extreme hardwork - its not difficult to clear the exam, but it is essential to understand all the basics of the language - which is more difficult.
2. Reg - Java is outdated - pls refer to a discussion on this forum titled "Java is Dead" - the experts have given a very clear picture of what is really happening
3. This site is excellent - as long as you actively participate and seriously go thru all the discussions - try it out yourself - try to solve other people's problems.

Welcome Shalini.I am a BE from Mumbai University.I cleared SCJP in June 2000.

I would say any certification is always worth it,because it makes you look deeper inside the topic than u usually would,and knowledge does not hurt.
Certiifcation will certainly open a few doors for u.As for actually getting employed,that depends on how u present urself at an interview.
This site has helped a lot of people clear the certification.it certainly helped me.

Never say Java as outdated. There is no technology which is going to replace Java. The only reason for the current panic is global economic slowdowns. Many dot-coms has failed - many companies are facing reduced income due to ecomomic slow downs. This has happend in late 80's. IBM which was one of the biggest companies at that time layed off thousands and that is what is happening now. Even if Java is replaced by another language or technology, knowledge of robust OO language like Java makes you prepared for the next thing.. So do not waste time - Java is a very good language and more you know about it, more you will like it. If you have the passion to programming and love computers, you should, you will learn Java - The economic condition do not stay bad for ever it will bounce back --
