Ok, now the next question.. Could I use this method to deliver an application to access a database on a shared network?
For instance, if I wanted to create somthing like a scheduling tool to track when an employee was going to be in or working a separate shift, and all the computers have the same drive mapping, can I allow them to "download" the initial app (using Web Start) from an intranet site then allow them to access a database with the information from a shared drive?
The reason is that I need / want to create an application in Java (to keep from losing the skills completely) and I don't have a server that I can run a .jsp architecture on. I could create an applet to run on the regular server, but I think, in the long run, an application on the Desktop (using the Web Start technology) would be more efficient.
Of course, if I'm wrong in this assumption (which is often the case) I am open to other suggestions..
Thanks!
